PITTENCRIEFF HOUSE RESTORATION

Challenge

Pittencrieff House, one of Dunfermline’s most significant historic buildings, was built around 1610. Now, to coincide with its 400th birthday, the exterior of the house is undergoing major restoration.

As part of the ongoing restoration, Fife Council asked us to design and produce a set of 5 exterior panels at the site to encourage interest in the House during the building work phase. The panels included the history of the House and also showed the type of restoration work required and why it was necessary.

Solution

Our creative route features the Map of Pittencrieff Park as drawn in 1896. This provides a backdrop for the panels and highlights the House within the local area. We also used a ‘period’ typeface relating to the time when the house was first built in 1610. These elements afford the viewer sense of history and intrigue.

We provided a ‘timeline’ panel which chronicles the history of the house and the colourful characters associated with it. The panels have been received well by Fife Council and have already generated a great deal of interest in the House from the public.
